Unity of Livonia put Love in Action with two back-to-back Sacred Service Opportunities this month. First, we partnered with the City of Livonia and Life Remodeled to renovate neighborhoods in the Denby High School area of Detroit. Several of our members spent the day mowing, trimming, sweeping and hauling trash from vacant properties. Other groups boarded up vacant homes, painted, planted gardens and helped with the completion of a new park. The project led by Life Remodeled put 10,700 volunteers in service to the community. It was a wonderful opportunity to put our love and caring into action. Thank you to all who participated and to all who held us in your thoughts that day.
Our second opportunity to serve came this past Saturday when we hosted our second annual Circulation Day, a free yard sale designed to help people in our community. We opened the doors to our Friendship Hall and Courtyard room where visitors were able to find treasures amongst the gently used items we had released and put back into circulation. So many people were grateful for the opportunity to receive and many joined with us by bringing in their own donations to the cause. In addition to the opportunity to serve, the event encouraged us to clear out old stuff, making room for something new in our minds, and hearts, not to mention closets! Unity of Royal Oak and God Land Unity joined us this year, and they too had an exciting day experiencing the joy of giving and creating the space for receiving. Thank you to all who participated, especially the wonderful volunteers who worked tirelessly making the day possible!
